College Trip Turns Tragic as 18-Year-Old Dies After Drowning Near Karjat Dam

Student from Navi Mumbai loses life during outing after entering water during break

Navi Mumbai- A college field trip ended in tragedy near Karjat in Maharashtra after an 18-year-old student drowned in a dam while spending time with friends on Tuesday. The incident involved Aryan Deepak Thapar, a resident of Ghansoli in Navi Mumbai, who had travelled with a large group of nearly 70 students for an academic excursion.

According to police officials, most students had already completed their scheduled activities and returned, while a few remained behind due to a vehicle breakdown near the Palasdari area. As arrangements were being made for repairs, Aryan and two others stayed close to the dam site.

During this time, Aryan reportedly entered the water for a swim. Although he was familiar with swimming, having successfully crossed the water twice earlier, he went in once more and failed to return to the surface. His friends raised an alarm when he did not reappear, prompting a search operation by local authorities.

Initial rescue efforts did not yield results, and a missing complaint was subsequently filed. The search resumed early the next morning, and rescue teams recovered his body from the dam around 8:35 am. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital in Karjat, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police have registered an accidental death case and further investigation is underway.
