Faridabad: In connection with the tragic ride collapse at the 39th Surajkund International Crafts Mela-2026 on February 7, Faridabad Police have arrested two accused. The incident claimed the life of Haryana Police Inspector Jagdish Prasad, who was martyred while rescuing injured visitors. An FIR has been registered at Surajkund police station under culpable homicide charges against Mohammad Shakir, proprietor of Himachal Fun Care Company.
Following the arrest, Shakir, a resident of Toka Nangla village in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, and co-accused Nitesh from Meerut Cantt, Uttar Pradesh, were taken into custody. The role of other individuals is under investigation. Considering the seriousness of the case, CP Satendra Kumar Gupta constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of DCP (Crime). The SIT, comprising ACP Crime-2, the Crime Branch in-charge (NIT), and Sub-Inspector Sanjay of Surajkund police station, is probing the case on scientific lines. DGP Ajay Singhal and CP Satendra Kumar Gupta visited Civil Hospital, Faridabad, and met the family of martyred Inspector Jagdish Prasad, expressing condolences. DGP said the inspector sacrificed his life while saving others, calling it an act of courage and duty. He assured the family of all possible financial assistance and said a job would be provided to an eligible family member under the police compassionate appointment scheme. DGP also visited Civil Hospital and Supreme Hospital to enquire about the condition of the injured. According to police, 12 persons were injured in the incident; their condition is stable and they are receiving advanced medical care. Five of the injured have been discharged after treatment. The body of Inspector Jagdish Prasad was handed over to his family after post-mortem.
