New Delhi – Indian Railways has decided to start work on the much-awaited Sultanganj–Katoria rail line in Bihar, a project that will provide a major boost to connectivity for Shiva devotees traveling to Deoghar from Bhagalpur and across the country. The proposed rail line will cover a total length of 74.8 kilometers, passing through Asarganj, Tarapur, and Belhar. Stations at Sultanganj, Asarganj, Tarapur, Belhar, Srinagar, Suyabthan, and Katoria will be included, with Katoria being developed as a junction station. Currently, Katoria lies on the Banka–Jasidih rail line. According to the latest estimates, the project will cost around Rs.1261 crore.

Once completed, it will ease the journey of lakhs of pilgrims who travel every year carrying holy water to Deoghar. At present, the distance from Sultanganj to Deoghar via Bhagalpur, Banka, and Katoria is about 160 kilometers. With the new line, this distance will be reduced to approximately 101 kilometers, significantly improving connectivity between Sultanganj and Deoghar.
