Tamil Film Legend Rajesh Passes Away in Chennai at 75

New Delhi : Veteran Tamil film actor Rajesh, known for his prolific contribution to Indian cinema with over 150 films, passed away in Chennai on Thursday at the age of 75. According to sources, the actor suffered a sudden heart attack in the early hours of May 29 and was immediately rushed to the hospital. Despite best efforts, he was declared dead shortly after.

Rajesh’s death has come as a shock to the film industry and his fans, leaving behind a legacy of versatile roles and memorable performances. His body has been placed at his residence in Ramapuram, Chennai, where members of the public and the film fraternity can pay their last respects.

Born on December 20, 1949, in Mannargudi in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvarur district, Rajesh began his professional journey as a school teacher. However, his passion for acting led him to leave the teaching profession and enter the world of cinema. His first appearance was a minor role in the 1974 film ‘Aval Oru Thodarkathai’, directed by the legendary K. Balachander.

Over the decades, Rajesh carved out a niche for himself as a dependable and natural actor, known for his powerful screen presence and emotional depth. He played pivotal roles in celebrated Tamil films such as ‘Nayakan’, ‘Khalnayak’, and ‘Gunachitra’. His performance in director Bhagyaraj’s ‘Andha 7 Naatkal’ was especially praised and remains one of his most iconic roles.

Rajesh also acted in films like ‘Journey’s End’, ‘Fear Not Fear’, and ‘New Ragas’, showcasing his versatility across genres ranging from drama to thriller. Even after 2000, he continued to feature in supporting and character roles, remaining active in the industry until recent years.

The actor is survived by his daughter Divya and son Deepak. His wife, Joan Sylvia, had passed away earlier. Friends, fans, and industry colleagues have taken to social media and local media outlets to express their condolences, remembering him not just as a skilled actor but as a humble and warm personality off-screen.
