Delhi Police Commemoration Day Parade Honors Fallen Heroes of the Force

New Delhi , 22 October, 2024-    The Delhi Police today organized Commemoration Day Parade in remembrance of Police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty while serving their respective forces between 01.09.2023 and 31.08.2024. The Parade was held at Parade Ground, New Police Lines Ground, Kingsway Camp, Delhi.

Shri Vivek Gogia, Spl. CP/Operations, Delhi read out the names of martyrs of Delhi Police, State and Central Police Organizations who laid down their lives in the line of duty, during the period. In all, 216 police personnel including 5 of    Delhi Police breathed their last while serving in their respective forces.

State and Central Police Organizations-wise details of personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty during the mentioned period are   Andhra Pradesh-2, Arunachal Pradesh-2, Assam-6, Bihar-15, Chhattisgarh-11, Jharkhand-4, Karnataka-5, Kerala-1, Madhya Pradesh-23, Maharashtra-3, Manipur-6, Meghalaya-1, Nagaland-4, Odisha-2, Punjab-2, Rajasthan-20,   Tamil Nadu-5, Telangana-1, Tripura-3, Uttar Pradesh-2, Uttarakhand-4,  West Bengal-9, Andaman & Nicobar Islands-1, Jammu & Kashmir-7, BSF-19,     CISF-6, CRPF-23, ITBP-6, SSB-2, Fire Service, Civil Defence & Home Guards-2,      RPF-14  and Delhi-5.

Shri Vivek Gogia, Spl. CP/Operations, Delhi paid homage to martyrs by laying wreath at the memorial. Ex-Governors Smt. Kiran Bedi & Dr. K.K. Paul, retired Police Commissioners Sh. T.R. Kakkar, Sh. B.K. Gupta, Sh. Neeraj Kumar, Sh. B. S. Bassi,  Sh. Alok Kumar Verma & Sh. Rakesh Asthana and also serving & retired Delhi Police officers & persons also paid homage by laying wreath at the memorial. A two minutes silence was also observed in remembrance of martyrs.

On October 21, 1959, ten Policemen laid down their lives while defending the integrity of our motherland at Hot Spring (Ladakh) in an ambush laid by heavily armed Chinese troops, who had violated Indian territory in Aksai Chin. In 1960, during DGsP/IGsP Conference, heads of all Police Organisations of India decided to observe the 21st October as Police Commemoration Day in the memory of these ten gallant martyrs.  In order to pay homage to these brave martyrs we remember them on this day. Simultaneously, we pay homage to all those brave personnel who sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation in the last one year.
