J&K : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir today, signaling a significant weather shift in the region. Additionally, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and parts of Punjab are also expected to experience heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. The hilly regions are likely to witness intense precipitation, which may lead to disruptions in travel, landslides, and road blockages in higher-altitude areas.
Alongside these conditions, light to moderate rainfall has been forecasted for Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal today. The changing weather patterns are expected to continue, with Arunachal Pradesh bracing for heavy rainfall tomorrow and Saturday, as per the latest IMD bulletin. Authorities have advised residents in these regions to take precautions against potential flooding, landslides, and waterlogging.
Speaking on the current weather scenario, IMD Scientist Dr. Soma Sen Roy noted that hot and humid weather conditions will persist in isolated areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam over the next three days. The southern and coastal states are expected to witness a rise in temperature and increased humidity, which may lead to discomfort among residents.
The IMD has also indicated a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2°C-3°C across the plains of Northwest India over the next two days. However, after this short-lived increase, temperatures are expected to drop by 3°C to 5°C thereafter, bringing slight relief from the heat. The fluctuating temperatures could have an impact on air quality, agricultural activities, and overall climatic stability in the region.
Meanwhile, Odisha is expected to experience a heatwave on Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures soaring to extreme levels. The IMD has issued advisories for residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. Authorities in Odisha have been urged to implement measures to safeguard public health, as heatwaves can pose serious risks to vulnerable populations, including the elderly and young children.
As weather conditions fluctuate across different parts of the country, the IMD continues to monitor and provide regular updates to help people stay informed and prepared. The department has also advised fishermen, travelers, and farmers to take note of the upcoming changes and plan their activities accordingly.
