CBI team arrives to Kolkata to start a probe into a doctor-rape murder case amidst a doctors’ strike

Kolkata : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the investigation into the rape and murder of a woman doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal, following an order from the Calcutta High Court. The court’s directive to transfer the case from the Kolkata Police to the central agency underscores the gravity of the crime and the need for an impartial probe.

The court also instructed the Kolkata Police to promptly hand over the case diary and all relevant documents to the CBI, ensuring a seamless transition in the investigation. This decision comes amid growing public outcry and a nationwide stir led by doctors, demanding justice for their colleague.

A team of senior CBI officers, including a specialized forensic team, reached Kolkata on Wednesday to begin the investigation. The forensic experts, along with CBI officials, are expected to visit the crime scene at RG Kar Medical College to gather crucial evidence and conduct a thorough examination of the site.
