CM Flags Off 25 New Patrolling Motorcycles to Enhance Traffic Management in Shimla and Nurpur

Government Invests Rs. 27 Crore in Traffic and Emergency Response Equipment Across Multiple Districts

Shimla August 4 2024 : Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated 25 high visibility patrolling motorcycles today at Chaura Maidan, Shimla, aimed at bolstering traffic management in Shimla and Police District Nurpur. The newly acquired motorcycles, which total an investment of Rs. 3.72 crore, will enhance traffic control and ensure smoother traffic flow in these regions.

Of the 25 motorcycles, 19 will be allocated to Shimla and six to Police District Nurpur. In addition to these motorcycles, the government has also distributed an array of equipment to District Shimla, including 30 handheld speed guns, 10 body-worn cameras, 18 Alco sensors, 30 speed cameras, 80 speed breakers, 225 reflective jackets, 115 rechargeable batons, 200 traffic cones, 70 interlocking plastic barricades, and 30 searchlights.

Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized the government’s commitment to road safety, noting that a total investment of Rs. 27 crore is being directed towards the acquisition of various equipment to facilitate emergency responses and traffic management. This includes 47 four-wheel vehicles for Shimla, Kangra, and Mandi districts, and 27 two-wheel vehicles for Kangra and Mandi districts. Additionally, 14 interceptor and wrecker vehicles, along with hydraulic equipment and emergency bags, will be purchased. All equipment is expected to be delivered by March 2025 to police stations across the three districts.

The Chief Minister also announced a substantial Rs. 90 crore investment in advanced patrolling, monitoring, rescue, and emergency response tools. This includes the establishment of an integrated road safety enforcement system in Shimla, featuring 532 AI-equipped cameras at 214 key locations. An additional Rs. 61.57 crore is being invested in this road safety system.

A comprehensive action plan has been developed to improve road engineering and police patrolling, with training provided to both police and Public Works Department engineers.

During the event, the Gym Khana Club Mandi, represented by President Vikas Kapoor and Secretary Achal Kapoor, contributed Rs. 2.01 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The ceremony was attended by Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Ram Kumar Chaudhary, MLA Harish Janartha, and several other senior officials, including Director General of Police Dr. Atul Verma and ADGP Abhishek Trivedi.
