The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report for the year ending March 2023 highlights that the Bihar Government utilized only 77.95% of its total budget and surrendered 30.86% of its total savings. The total budget for the state for the financial year 2022-2023 was ₹3,01,686.46 crore.
The report, tabled in the State legislature on July 25, also detailed a significant increase in the state’s budget outlay over recent years. Specifically, the budget outlay grew from ₹1,60,317.66 crore in the financial year 2018-19 to ₹2,35,176.84 crore in 2022-23. This growth reflects an increase in the state’s expenditure capacity and fiscal planning over the period.
