Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Accuses Centre of Neglecting State in Union Budget

Demands Immediate Payment of Rs 1.36 Lakh Crore Owed to Jharkhand

Ranchi, July 24 2024 : Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren criticized the Central government on Wednesday for what he termed as neglecting the state in the Union budget. He accused BJP leaders of maintaining silence over outstanding dues owed by the Centre to Jharkhand, amounting to Rs 1.36 lakh crore, and demanded prompt payment of the dues.

Addressing the issue, Soren questioned the disparity in treatment towards the state, highlighting that despite Jharkhand contributing significantly in terms of electoral support, it has not received adequate financial consideration. He specifically pointed out the Centre’s recent financial commitments to Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, both governed by NDA allies, as examples of unequal treatment.

“Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das left behind outstanding dues of Rs 5,000 crore related to DVC, which the Centre deducted without informing us, and BJP leaders applauded this action,” Soren remarked, referencing a social media post by JMM.

He further criticized the Union budget for allegedly favoring the interests of ‘billionaire friends’ over the welfare of farmers, citing concerns about the impact on agriculture, which supports a majority of the country’s population.

Soren’s statements come amid growing discontent in Jharkhand regarding the state’s financial position and its relationship with the Centre, underscoring a need for equitable distribution of resources and financial support.
