Team India has departed for Sri Lanka to compete in a three-match T20I series and a three-match ODI series.

Mumbai, July 22 2024 : Following a press conference in Mumbai on Monday, the Indian Cricket Team embarked on their journey to Sri Lanka, where they are scheduled to compete in a three-match T20I series followed by a three-match ODI series.

The T20Is are slated to take place on July 27 and July 30, with the action shifting to the Pallekele International Stadium. Subsequently, the three ODIs will commence from August 1 at the R Premadasa Stadium.

Ahead of the tour, newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir expressed confidence in stepping into a role previously held by esteemed coaches like Rahul Dravid and Ravi Shastri.

“I am inheriting a highly successful team, finishing as runners-up in the WTC and 50-overs World Cup. I understand the responsibility and am eager to contribute to the team’s success,” Gambhir stated during the press briefing.

Joining Gambhir in the coaching staff are Abhishek Nayar and Ryan Ten Doeschate. Nayar, a former Indian cricketer who played three ODIs and achieved numerous Ranji Trophy victories with Mumbai, will serve as the assistant coach. Ten Doeschate, currently involved with the Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket, brings his experience as a batting coach with Kent and as an assistant coach at the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League.

“We have a professional coaching setup with Abhishek and Ryan, both of whom have proven track records. I look forward to their contributions to the team,” Gambhir added.

The Indian team aims to continue their strong performance under Gambhir’s leadership as they prepare for the upcoming series in Sri Lanka.
