New Delhi, Nov 14, 2023 – In a tragic incident, a 40-year-old woman lost her life, and 10 others sustained injuries following a fire outbreak at a building in East Delhi’s Shakarpur on Tuesday, according to the Delhi Fire Service.
Director of the Delhi Fire Service, Atul Garg, reported that 26 individuals were successfully rescued, while five others resorted to jumping from the balcony to escape the flames. The incident unfolded in a building with a ground plus three-storey structure, trapping at least 31 people.
DFS personnel, responding promptly, rescued 26 people, and an additional five individuals took the daring leap from the balcony. Ten of the victims were rushed to medical facilities, including GTB Hospital, LBS Hospital, and Hedgewar Hospital. Unfortunately, the doctors declared the 40-year-old woman dead.
DFS Director Atul Garg noted, “One DFS personnel identified as Samay Singh, experiencing breathing problems, was also injured and rushed to LBS Hospital. He has been discharged after receiving first aid.”
Initially, three fire tenders were deployed to the scene, and an additional five were dispatched upon learning that several people were trapped inside the building. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical role played by emergency services in such unfortunate events.
