The court has ordered 14 days of judicial custody while investigations continue into her alleged links with Pakistan’s intelligence agency.
Jyoti Malhotra, a social media content creator from Hisar, was arrested earlier this week after being on the radar of security agencies for suspicious activities during and after her visits to Pakistan. According to officials familiar with the investigation, she allegedly held in-person meetings with officers of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) during her stays across the border.
The police have reportedly recovered 12 terabytes of data from her electronic devices, including her laptop and mobile phone. The contents of the data are currently being analyzed by forensic and intelligence teams. While the authorities have not officially disclosed the exact nature of the data, sources suggest it may contain sensitive documents, video footage, and communication logs relevant to national security.
According to investigators, Jyoti Malhotra had traveled to Pakistan on the pretext of creating cross-border cultural content. However, officials allege that during her visits, she engaged in activities that went beyond the scope of journalism or content creation. These included repeated, direct interactions with individuals identified as Pakistani intelligence operatives.
Security agencies believe that Malhotra may have been part of a larger information-gathering network. Her growing online presence could have served as a cover for collecting and transferring data related to defense establishments and strategic infrastructure.
Authorities are also probing the financial transactions linked to her YouTube channel and social media accounts to trace the possible flow of funds, including any foreign sources. Preliminary investigations suggest that she may have received undisclosed payments for her alleged activities.
A senior police official stated, “This is a grave matter concerning national security. The suspect’s digital footprint is extensive and could reveal more about the scope of her involvement. Investigations are ongoing.”
