Strict Enforcement of Child Labour Laws at International Surajkund Mela

Surajkund (Faridabad), February 12,2024: The Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has issued essential directives regarding children found begging or performing stunts around the 38th International Surajkund Craft Mela premises. Strict compliance with the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, and the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, is being ensured, stated Surajkund Mela Administrator & ADC Sahil Gupta.

ADC Sahil Gupta emphasized that under the guidance of DC Vikram Singh, the district administration is running continuous awareness campaigns against child labour. Authorities are vigilant to ensure that child labour is not practiced anywhere, including the mela premises.

He instructed officials, police personnel, and staff associated with the fair to ensure that no child begs, performs stunts, or faces any violation of child rights within the mela premises. The Child Welfare Committee, Faridabad, and the District Child Protection Unit have been directed to rescue any children found begging or engaged in hazardous activities and create awareness among their parents.

Regular awareness programs will be conducted at the mela announcement center to educate visitors about preventing child labour. ADC Sahil Gupta warned that forcing children to beg or work for money is illegal and punishable by law, and strict action will be taken against offenders.

Visitors are urged to report any such activities immediately by calling 1098 or 112. Additionally, they can visit the Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights stall at Gate No. 2 in the mela premises.
