New Delhi , August 2, 2024: The Delhi government has launched an inquiry following the deaths of 13 residents at the state-run Asha Kiran shelter home within a month. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and led to protests by BJP members across the city after they were denied entry to the shelter home premises.
Delhi Minister Atishi expressed shock and concern over the deaths, stating, “It is very shocking to hear such bad news in the capital city of Delhi, and we cannot tolerate such lapses if found true. This is a very serious issue and needs to be thoroughly investigated.” She emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation to improve conditions in all such homes and ensure better facilities for the inmates.
Atishi has directed the Additional Chief Secretary for Revenue to conduct a magisterial inquiry and submit a report within 48 hours. She also called for action against those responsible for the deaths due to negligence. The senior AAP leader’s swift response underscores the urgency of addressing the issue and ensuring accountability. The BJP’s protests highlight the political sensitivity and public outcry surrounding the tragic deaths at the shelter home.
