Shikhar Dhawan Condemns Violence After Man Killed in Holi Clash in Delhi

Shikhar Dhawan Reacts to Delhi Holi Clash Killing, Says ‘Humanity Should Never Stoop So Low’

New Delhi, March 10: Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan expressed deep sorrow over the death of a 26-year-old man following a violent clash during Holi celebrations in West Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, urging strict punishment for those responsible.

The victim, identified as Tarun Kumar, died after a dispute between two neighbouring families escalated into violence in a JJ Colony area during Holi festivities last week. The incident reportedly began when an 11-year-old girl threw water balloons while celebrating the festival. One of the balloons allegedly hit a woman from another family, leading to an argument that soon turned into a physical confrontation.

According to reports, several members of both families were injured in the clash. Tarun Kumar later succumbed to his injuries a day after the incident. His family has alleged that he was attacked by a group of neighbours using sticks, bats and stones.

Reacting to the incident, Dhawan shared a message on the social media platform X, calling the episode heartbreaking. He said it was shocking that a minor incident during a festival could spiral into such tragic violence and added that humanity should never fall to such levels. The cricketer also offered prayers for the victim’s family and hoped that the perpetrators would face the strictest legal consequences.

The incident triggered protests in Uttam Nagar, where demonstrators reportedly set vehicles on fire and gathered outside a local police station demanding action. Police were deployed to control the situation after tensions rose in the neighbourhood.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met the victim’s family and assured them that the government would ensure strong and swift action against those involved. She stated that such acts of violence would not be tolerated and that justice for the victim’s family remains a priority.

Police officials have confirmed that 14 people, including a minor, have been detained in connection with the case so far. Investigators said efforts are ongoing to identify any additional individuals involved in the clash as the probe continues.
