Tensions within the Aam Aadmi Party have come into the spotlight after Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann addressed the removal of Raghav Chadha from the role of deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha.
Mann described the move as a routine internal adjustment, emphasizing that such changes are a normal part of parliamentary functioning. He maintained that positions within the party and Parliament are periodically reassigned and should not be viewed as unusual developments.
The Punjab CM underscored that adherence to party decisions is essential, suggesting that any deviation from the party’s official stance could invite action. Without elaborating in detail, he indicated that unity and discipline remain central to the party’s functioning.
, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann says, “This is regular party functioning… It is his call on what statement he wants to make…” He also says, “Those who break party lines should be subjected to action…”
When asked directly about Chadha’s situation, Mann briefly affirmed concerns, adding that it was up to the MP to clarify his position publicly.
The controversy escalated after AAP leader Anurag Dhanda publicly questioned Chadha’s recent role in Parliament. Dhanda alleged that Chadha had not been assertive enough on key national issues and appeared reluctant to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He also suggested that parliamentary opportunities should be used to raise major public concerns rather than less significant topics.
Responding to the criticism, Chadha strongly defended his record, stating that he has consistently highlighted public issues whenever given the opportunity in Parliament.
He further claimed that the party had taken steps to limit his participation in the Rajya Sabha by formally communicating restrictions to the Secretariat. Expressing disappointment, Chadha said attempts to silence him would not weaken his resolve.
In a pointed remark, he suggested that his current silence should not be mistaken for surrender, hinting at a stronger response in the future.
The episode points to emerging differences within AAP’s leadership, particularly over parliamentary strategy and internal discipline. While the party leadership insists the reshuffle is procedural, the public exchange of remarks signals a deeper disagreement that could shape its political direction in the coming months.
