There is no paucity of funds for the development projects of Railways in Punjab: S Ravneet Singh Union minister of state for Railways and food processing

Union minister announces multiple Railway projects for Pathankot

Gurdaspur/ Pathankot 27-02-2026 : The annual railway budget allocation for Punjab today is nearly 25 times higher than during the 2009–2014 period, amounting to ₹5,673 crore. Currently, infrastructure projects worth ₹26,382 crore are in progress across Punjab, encompassing new track construction, station redevelopment, safety enhancement measures, and other capacity augmentation initiatives. Announcing this today, S Ravneet Singh Union Minister Of State for Railways and Food Processing industries said that 30 railway stations in the state are being comprehensively redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with a total investment of ₹1,311 crore, aimed at providing modern passenger amenities and improved facilities.
Thanking Prime Minister and the Railway Minister for approving the construction of the 3rd and 4th railway lines between Delhi and Ambala. This significant project forms part of the broader initiative to quadruple the highly utilized Delhi–Jammu corridor, a crucial arterial route linking the National Capital Region with northern states. Covering a route length of 194 kilometers and estimated at a cost of ₹5,983 crore, the project is scheduled for completion within four years. The upgraded corridor will also improve connectivity to major pilgrimage and tourist destinations such as Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Srinagar, Jammu, and Shimla, thereby boosting tourism and regional development.
Announcing the commencement of construction of a Road Under Bridge (RUB) at Nalunga (Km 94.030) on the Jalandhar Cantt–Pathankot (JRC–PTKC) section near Mirthal Railway Station, S. Ravneet singh said that the RUB is designed as a 7.5-meter span with 5.5-meter clear height and a 32-degree skew, covering two railway tracks. The work has now been proposed by Jammu Division at a revised cost of Rs. 18.28 crore.
Speaking about the traffic problem on the narrow gauge line, Ravneet Said This stretch has 12 level crossing gates with high traffic vehicle units (TVU), located at very short intervals of 100–200 meters within a densely populated township. When narrow gauge trains operate fully, prolonged gate closures result in severe road congestion, blockage of emergency services, public complaints, and law and order issues, making this section a significant operational bottleneck with no short-term engineering solution. As a long-term solution, development of DLSR, located approximately 10 km from Pathankot Junction, is proposed due to availability of sufficient land and fewer level crossings with minimal urban interference. The capacity enhancement work at DLSR is estimated at Rs. 21.42 crore and the scope includes provision of two stabling lines, one pit line, one sick line, one diesel loco pit line, and one shunting neck.
Speaking on the redevelopment of Pathankot Cantt railway station , S. Ravneet Singh said that Technical consultancy has been proposed for feasibility study, master planning, urban designing, engineering, and preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for integrated redevelopment of Pathankot Cantt railway station
