New Delhi, May 18, 2025: A tragic building collapse in Delhi’s Paharganj area has left three people dead and one seriously injured, prompting swift action from the Delhi Police and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
The incident occurred on May 17 at an under-construction site where a basement wall reportedly gave way, leading to the fatal accident. Police officials from Nabi Karim Police Station have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and investigations are currently underway.
The deceased have been identified as Prabhu (65), the contractor, and two workers—Niranjan (40) and Roshan (35)—who were hired by him. While Prabhu and Niranjan were from Bihar, Roshan hailed from Uttar Pradesh. Another worker, Chuttan (35), was rescued and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives and directed officials to provide full assistance to the victims’ families. “This is a heartbreaking incident. All necessary aid must be extended to the injured and the families of the deceased,” stated the CM through her office.
According to the Delhi CMO, officials including the District Magistrate of Central Delhi, SDM Karol Bagh, MCD authorities, and senior Delhi Police personnel visited the collapse site. Rescue efforts were promptly carried out by teams from the Delhi Fire Service and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), which also deployed a dog squad to ensure no one was trapped under the debris.
Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) Manish Kumar of the Delhi Fire Service confirmed that the Connaught Place fire station was the first to respond. “We received the distress call promptly and rushed to the spot. Three casualties have been confirmed, and one injured person has been hospitalized,” he told.
The Delhi administration has assured that financial and logistical aid will be extended to the victims’ families as per policy.
