J&K: Calm Prevails in Chatroo After Gunfire Halt; Cordon and Search Operation Underway

Jammu, May 23 – A joint team of security forces launched a cordon and search operation early Friday morning in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir. No fresh exchange of fire has been reported following Thursday’s encounter with terrorists.

On Thursday, one army soldier was martyred during a gunfight that broke out in the Singhpura area of Chatroo between security forces and terrorists.

“The firing ceased by Thursday evening, and there has been no further exchange of fire since then,” said official sources.

A large-scale search operation was initiated by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with the Army and paramilitary forces, to track down the terrorists believed to be hiding in the dense forest area.

“Additional troops have been deployed, and the operation is ongoing with the aim to neutralize the terrorists,” the officials added.

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police, Nalin Prabhat, visited the Singhpora-Chatroo area to assess the ongoing anti-terror operation.

“The DGP personally visited the dense forest and mountainous terrain, encouraged the personnel on ground, and issued directives to ensure that all terrorists involved are brought to justice,” said an official source.

DGP Prabhat praised the coordination among all security forces and reaffirmed the commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to uphold peace and security in the region through continuous and determined efforts.
