New Delhi, Mar 12 2025 : In a significant move benefiting lakhs of Khadi artisans, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has announced a 20% increase in wages, effective April 1, 2025. The announcement was made by KVIC Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar during a press conference at the Rajghat office in New Delhi.
The wage hike follows a 25% increase announced on September 17, 2024, on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. Under the Modi government, Khadi artisans’ wages have seen a historic 275% increase over the last 11 years.
As per the revised rates, spinners will now earn ₹15 per hank, up from the current ₹12.50. Shri Manoj Kumar highlighted that the ‘Khadi Revolution’ spearheaded by PM Modi has transformed the sector, bringing prosperity to artisans.
During Maha Kumbh 2025, a National Khadi and Village Industries Exhibition in Prayagraj saw record-breaking sales of ₹12.02 crore. The exhibition, held from January 14 to February 27, featured 98 Khadi stalls and 54 Village Industry stalls, with Khadi sales reaching ₹9.76 crore and Village Industry products contributing ₹2.26 crore.
Inspired by PM Modi’s vision of ‘Khadi for Fashion’, KVIC has been organizing grand Khadi fashion shows across major cities like Nagpur, Pune, Vadodara, Chennai, Jaipur, and Prayagraj. These events aim to popularize ‘New Khadi of New India’ among the youth, making Khadi a symbol of modern dressing.
Shri Manoj Kumar assured that FY 2024-25 will break all previous records in Khadi production and sales, further strengthening rural artisans’ economic empowerment.
