New Delhi , 17 November -In a significant development for the national capital, Delhi’s Kishanganj station on Sunday welcomed the arrival of the “Kanda Express” carrying fresh onions from Nashik. This initiative, which involves the large-scale transportation of onions by rail, ensures a reliable and cost-effective supply to various regions. The move offers a boost to onion farmers in Nashik by providing them with additional revenue through bulk transportation.
The strategic shift to rail transport not only stabilizes onion prices, supporting consumers, but also offers cooperative societies a more economical option for road transportation. The Indian Railways’ efforts to facilitate quick deliveries of perishable items directly from farmers to markets are part of the broader “Farmer Prosperity” initiative. With the increased rail transportation, Delhi will experience a steady supply of onions, which will lead to stable retail prices in the markets. In fact, another trainload of onions is currently being loaded in Nashik, further ensuring a continuous supply to meet the city’s demand.
