SC is set to resume hearing the Kolkata doctor rape-murder case today

New Delhi : The Supreme Court, having taken suo motu cognizance of the Kolkata doctor rape-murder case, directed the CBI to submit a status report on August 22. The CBI is also tasked with investigating the mob vandalism at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital during protests. The court criticized the West Bengal government for its mishandling of the situation, demanding a separate report on the mob incident. Meanwhile, the CBI has been grilling former hospital principal Sandip Ghosh for six consecutive days.

Amid ongoing nationwide protests, the Supreme Court has established a national task force to address the broader issue of ensuring the safety of medical professionals, particularly women. This task force is expected to submit an interim report within three weeks and a final report within two months.

Kolkata doctor rape-murder on concerns of protesting resident doctors getting marked as absent for duty, CJI DY Chandrachud said that the court will ensure that there is no adverse action against protesting resident doctors once they resume their duties.
