New Delhi, August 6, 2024: The All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council has voiced strong support for the Government’s proposed amendments to the Waqf Act, as stated by a council representative on Tuesday.
Syed Naseeruddin Chishti, chairman of the council, an umbrella organization for Sufis in India, remarked, “The council firmly backs the amendments proposed by this Government. These changes are urgently needed.”
Chishti emphasized that the council has long advocated for these modifications, saying, “The Dargahs have significant stakes, and our demands should be acknowledged. We are confident that the Government will present the Bill in a manner that benefits Muslims.”
He urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation and to reserve judgment until the bill is presented in Parliament. “The bill needs to be carefully reviewed. It’s important to understand it fully before making any premature judgments or accusations,” Chishti added.
Chishti also stressed the need to address corruption within the Waqf Board, asserting, “The Government aims to improve the situation for Muslims. This issue should not be politicized.”
He noted that the council has conveyed its demands to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, who responded positively to their concerns.
