Tragedy on Delhi Roads, Speeding DTC Bus Leaves Two Dead, Sparks Protest

New Delhi, March 9, 2026: A devastating road accident in Nihal Vihar, Delhi claimed two lives and left a woman critically injured on Monday morning after a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus lost control and collided with multiple vehicles, including a scooter, a motorcycle, and a hand-rickshaw.

According to police, the bus was traveling from Najafgarh when the incident occurred on Najafgarh-Nangloi Road around 9:45 am. The injured woman was immediately taken to Mansa Ram Hospital, where she remains under treatment.

The accident triggered widespread anger among local residents. Around 500 people gathered at the site, vandalizing the bus involved and setting another DTC bus on fire. Police confirmed that the bus driver has been apprehended, and additional security measures were deployed to restore order.

DTC officials reported that five other buses parked nearby sustained minor damages during the chaos. Social media videos showed one bus engulfed in flames, with police sirens audible in the background. Fortunately, all passengers were evacuated safely before the vehicle was torched.

Several bystanders described chaotic scenes immediately following the crash. Deepak Sharma, an eyewitness, recounted that he saw the bus strike multiple vehicles and run over a man. Locals rushed to help, moving the victim from under the bus and transporting him in an e-rickshaw to a nearby hospital when ambulances did not arrive promptly.

The police have confirmed that the driver is in custody, and the investigation into the exact cause of the accident is ongoing. No details about the identities of the deceased have been released yet.
