NEW DELHI: The ‘AAP’ government in Delhi, committed to making Delhi clean and beautiful, has given a momentous gift to Delhites on the occasion of Diwali. The AAP government has regularized 5,000 sanitation workers in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
These workers had been demanding job security for a long time, but the BJP government, which ruled for 15 years, never took their demands seriously.
CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal, congratulating Delhiites, mentioned, “We have fulfilled our promise by making the sanitation workers permanent. So far, we have made 6494 sanitation workers permanent. The BJP government, during its 15-year tenure in the MCD, had only exploited the sanitation workers, but our government has given them their rights. In the BJP government, there were reports of corruption and employees not receiving their salaries for many months, but now everyone is receiving their salaries on time, and sanitation workers are also being made permanent.”
CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal held a press conference on Wednesday regarding the permanent employment of MCD’s sanitation workers. The Chief Minister informed, “MCD house’s meeting commenced on Tuesday. In that meeting, a proposal was passed to make approximately 5,000 sanitation workers of the MCD permanent employees. The AAP government came to power in the MCD in January. Since then, we have made around 6494 sanitation workers permanent. The employment of sanitation workers is often uncertain. They may be called to work today, but there’s no guarantee they’ll be called tomorrow. They don’t know if they will work for 15 days or 20 days in a month. They even lack clarity about their holidays. Many sanitation workers have not received their full salaries. So far, sanitation workers have been subjected to various forms of exploitation.”
Shri Arvind Kejriwal continued, “For the past 15 years, the BJP’s government was in power in the MCD. The BJP didn’t spare sanitation workers from exploitation. Sanitation workers consistently demanded to be made permanent employees, a process that the AAP government has pushed forward. We had promised that we would make all sanitation workers permanent. Since this announcement, sanitation workers are very happy. I have received numerous phone calls from sanitation workers. AAP’s government has been in power in Punjab for only 1.5 years. Within this short period, we have regularized approximately 30,000 non-permanent employees. This demonstrates the commitment of the AAP. Non-permanent employees have been subjected to exploitation. Whenever we get an opportunity in any government, we will regularize non-permanent employees and gradually end the non-permanent sanitation employment system.”
Speaking on the improvement in the MCD the Chief Minister mentioned, Since the AAP government has come to power in the MCD, good news has been coming from the Municipal Corporation. Before our government, there were reports of corruption and delayed salaries in the Municipal Corporation. When the BJP was in power in the MCD, corruption was rampant. In addition, there were reports of all MCD employees not receiving their salaries for three to four months. Sanitation workers were often seen protesting and going on strikes demanding their salaries. Since the AAP government has come to power in the MCD, we have controlled many wrongdoings, and for the past 3-4 months, all MCD employees have started receiving their salaries on time. Along with this, the process of making sanitation workers permanent has also begun. I want to congratulate not only the sanitation workers but also the entire population of Delhi.
Extending his wishes on this festive season, CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal stated that Diwali is approaching. This is a momentous announcement on the occasion of Diwali. I wish everyone a happy Diwali and other festivals like Chhath Puja. May God keep you all happy, your family healthy, bring prosperity, and fulfill everyone’s desires.
