New Delhi, July 8 – In a significant development aimed at strengthening media infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh, the Central Government has given the green light for setting up a new Akashvani Kendra in Ujjain under the Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND) scheme.
The decision was discussed during a meeting between Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Dr. L. Murugan and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. The two leaders convened at Dr. Murugan’s residence in New Delhi to explore avenues for enhanced collaboration in media outreach and broadcasting across the state.
The proposed Akashvani Kendra in Ujjain is expected to play a vital role in expanding regional broadcast capabilities, preserving local culture, and improving the flow of accurate and timely information to the public. This initiative is part of the broader BIND scheme, which supports Prasar Bharati in upgrading infrastructure, developing content, and carrying out civil work necessary for modern media operations.
The BIND scheme represents the Government of India’s commitment to creating a robust national broadcasting network that reaches even the remotest corners of the country.
The meeting emphasized the crucial role of Akashvani and Doordarshan in showcasing development stories from Madhya Pradesh, helping to bridge the information gap between policy-making at the Centre and its implementation on the ground.
Both leaders underlined the importance of building a resilient and modern broadcasting infrastructure, especially in underserved and aspirational districts. Improved connectivity and upgraded broadcast facilities will enable the government to reach citizens at the last mile, empowering them with news, information, and awareness of welfare initiatives.
Senior officials present during the discussion included Shri Hemant Khandelwal, Madhya Pradesh BJP State President; Shri Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting; and Dr. Pragya Paliwal Gaur, Director General of Akashvani. Their participation reflected a unified commitment to institutional cooperation for advancing the national vision of a developed and empowered India — Viksit Bharat.
The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to deepen Centre-State coordination in media and broadcasting, ensuring that Madhya Pradesh continues to play a leading role in the nation’s communication ecosystem.
