London, July 8 (2025) — Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli has extended his full support to tennis legend Novak Djokovic as the Serbian maestro aims for a record-equaling eighth Wimbledon title. Kohli, who was spotted alongside his wife and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma during Djokovic’s Round of 16 match at Wimbledon 2025, expressed his admiration and personal bond with the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
Speaking to Star Sports, Virat revealed that he has been in regular touch with Djokovic over text. “He’s incredibly gracious. We’ve exchanged messages and stayed connected,” Kohli said. “I would love to see Djokovic vs Alcaraz in the final. And honestly, I want Novak to win this one—it would be historic.”
Djokovic secured his place in the quarterfinals after defeating Alex de Minaur in a gripping four-set match: 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. If successful, this will be Djokovic’s first Grand Slam title since the 2023 US Open, and his overall 25th major title, solidifying his place among the greatest tennis players of all time.
Meanwhile, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz powered through to the quarterfinals with a comeback win over Andrey Rublev, notching his 22nd straight win and 18th consecutive victory at Wimbledon. Alcaraz will next face Britain’s Cameron Norrie, while Djokovic will clash with Italy’s Flavio Cobolli in the quarters.
Kohli’s presence at Centre Court wasn’t the only buzz — cricketing greats Joe Root, James Anderson, and tennis legend Roger Federer were also among the audience.
The former India captain has had a remarkable year himself. Kohli led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to their maiden IPL 2025 title, scoring 657 runs in 15 matches. In May, the 36-year-old stunned fans by announcing his retirement from Test cricket, ending an era where he led India to 40 Test wins—the most by any Indian captain.
With two GOATs from different sports sharing mutual respect and support, fans are eagerly awaiting a possible Djokovic vs Alcaraz Wimbledon final—one that could go down in tennis history.
