Tehran | March 2, 2026: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has indicated that recent missile and drone strikes across parts of the Gulf were not the outcome of a new political order from Tehran, but rather actions carried out under previously issued military directives.
In remarks to Al Jazeera, Araghchi addressed the attack on the port of Duqm in Oman – a nation currently serving as an intermediary in sensitive discussions between Iran, the United States, and Israel. He suggested that certain Iranian military formations are operating with a level of autonomy, acting within broad strategic parameters already set by leadership.
Reports of fresh explosions surfaced for a second consecutive day in major Gulf cities, including Dubai, Doha, and Manama, alongside Duqm. The incidents have heightened fears of a broader regional confrontation.
Araghchi asserted that Iran considers the conflict a consequence of actions by Washington and Tel Aviv. He urged Gulf nations not to pressure Tehran to halt military operations, but instead to focus diplomatic efforts on what he described as the opposing side.
While conceding that some neighboring governments are dissatisfied with the escalation, the minister said he has maintained direct communication with regional counterparts since tensions intensified. He added that Iranian armed forces have been advised to exercise caution in determining their targets.
The comments reflect Tehran’s attempt to balance firmness with restraint, even as instability spreads across strategic Gulf location
