Rekha Gupta Unveils Statue of Bhagat Singh on Shaheed Diwas

New Delhi : Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta commemorated Shaheed Diwas on Monday by unveiling a new statue of Bhagat Singh and inauguring a restored courtroom at the Registrar Cooperative Society (RCS) office on Parliament Street. While speaking at the ceremony, Gupta said that the location is of immense historical significance as it witnessed the trial of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar for bombing the Assembly. Gupta said that the location is still in the same condition as it was many years ago and is a reflection of India’s freedom struggle.

The Chief Minister asked people to visit the location to understand the legacy of these freedom fighters better. In a rather interesting comment, she said, “While some people use the names of martyrs for political mileage, they do not emulate those revolutionary ideals in their lives.” She ended her speech by saying, “Their martyrdom shall forever be held in the highest esteem by the nation.”

Supporting the initiative, Delhi Social Security Minister Ravindra Singh Indraj described the project as a vital effort to preserve a site of national importance. He explained that the restoration included recreating the corridor where the “Inquilab Zindabad” slogans once echoed, alongside a courtroom designed to look exactly as it did during the 1929 trial. The aim, according to Indraj, is to provide a space where the public — and the youth in particular — can engage with the facts of Bhagat Singh’s life and the principles he stood for.

The restoration was completed under the Chief Minister’s direction, with significant logistical support from PWD Minister Parvesh Verma. The place is expected to serve as a permanent memorial and educational hub in the heart of the capital.
