Rahul Gandhi Targets Himanta Biswa Sarma, Calls Him ‘India’s Most Corrupt CM’ Over Assam Land Deals

Congress leader accuses PM Modi, Amit Shah and Assam CM of running a “land-for-corporates” model; vows action if Congress returns to power

Thursday, April 2, 2026 – Rahul Gandhi on Thursday launched a sharp political attack on Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging that the Assam Chief Minister is the “most corrupt” in the country and accusing his administration of large-scale land-related irregularities.

Addressing a public gathering in Assam’s Bokajan, the Congress leader claimed that the state government is facilitating the transfer of public land to corporate entities. He further alleged that this process is being carried out with the backing of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.

Gandhi described the alleged system as a “land ATM”, suggesting that land resources in Assam are being distributed in a way that benefits select business groups rather than the general public.

He also warned that if the Congress party comes back to power in the state, strict action would be taken against those involved. According to him, the current leadership may appear confident now but would be held accountable in the future.

The remarks come amid heightened political tensions in Assam, with land policies and governance becoming key issues ahead of upcoming electoral battles.
