President Droupadi Murmu Leads Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas Celebrations in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh

President highlights India’s rich tribal heritage, major welfare initiatives, and the nation’s progress in overcoming Left Wing Extremism.

RAIPUR : The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, graced the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas celebration organised by the Government of Chhattisgarh today (November 20, 2025) at Ambikapur in Surguja district.

Addressing the gathering, the President said that the contribution of India’s tribal communities forms a glorious and inseparable chapter of the nation’s democratic roots. She cited examples such as the ancient republic traditions and the iconic ‘Muria Darbar’ of Bastar, often regarded as a primitive people’s parliament that reflects India’s long-standing democratic ethos.

The President highlighted that tribal culture and traditions are deeply rooted across Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and several other parts of the nation. She appreciated the Chhattisgarh Government for observing the Tribal Pride Fortnight from November 1 to 15 on a large scale this year, celebrating the legacy of tribal communities.

Smt. Murmu underlined that, over the past decade, the Government of India has launched several transformative initiatives for the welfare and development of tribal communities. She recalled the ‘Dharti Aba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan’, launched last year on Gandhi Jayanti, aimed at extending benefits to more than 50 million tribal citizens. She also mentioned the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) aimed at socio-economic upliftment of the 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).

The President further highlighted the ‘Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan’, initiated during the 150th birth anniversary year of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. Under this initiative, a nationwide network of nearly 20 lakh volunteers is being formed to support development efforts at the grassroots level.

Commending the improving security situation, she expressed satisfaction that people in various regions—including Chhattisgarh—are increasingly abandoning the path of Left Wing Extremism and becoming part of mainstream development. With the sustained efforts of central and state governments, she said that the complete eradication of Left Wing Extremism is within reach.

Murmu also lauded the participation of more than 1.65 lakh people in the recently conducted Bastar Olympics, noting that such events reflect the growing confidence and unity within tribal communities.

Expressing hope for the future, President Murmu said that by following the ideals of great tribal icons, the people of Chhattisgarh will continue contributing meaningfully toward building a strong, self-reliant, and developed India.
