New Delhi–Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed profound grief over the passing of veteran tribal leader and former Jharkhand Chief Minister, Shri Shibu Soren. In a heartfelt message shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister remembered Soren as a grassroots statesman dedicated to the upliftment of tribal communities and the underprivileged.
“Shri Shibu Soren Ji was a grassroots leader who rose through the ranks of public life with unwavering dedication to the people. He was particularly passionate about empowering tribal communities, the poor and downtrodden. Pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. Spoke to Jharkhand CM Shri Hemant Soren Ji and expressed condolences. Om Shanti,” wrote PM Modi.
The Prime Minister’s message highlighted the late leader’s lifelong commitment to social justice and his unwavering focus on empowering marginalized communities. His passing marks the end of an era in Indian tribal and regional politics.
Shibu Soren, widely known as “Dishom Guru” (leader of the tribe), played a pivotal role in the Jharkhand movement and was instrumental in the formation of the state. His political career spanned decades, during which he held various key positions, including Union Minister and multiple terms as Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
Prime Minister Modi also reached out personally to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the son of the late leader, to convey his condolences and extend support during this difficult time.
