Olympics: ‘Lack of air-conditioning in Village not a concern for now’

Mumbai , 6 July 2024 :- The Indian contingent heading to the Paris Olympics appears to be relatively unconcerned about the lack of air-conditioning in the Games Village, despite potential high temperatures during the event, according to Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, the Chief Medical Officer. While other countries like the US and Australia plan to bring portable AC units, the Indian athletes seem to be adapting well to the situation, largely due to the geothermal cooling system and the availability of fans.

Dr. Pardiwala emphasized that the athletes are accustomed to non-air-conditioned environments and seem comfortable with the current arrangements. Although temperature-controlled devices such as cooled mattresses and pillows were tested, not all athletes found them comfortable. Contingency plans for emergency air-conditioning are being considered if a heat wave occurs.

The Indian contingent will also benefit from having a sleep therapist and access to sleeping pods for recovery. The shooting team, based in Chateauroux, has opted for minimal interference, preferring to handle their own processes with occasional nutritional support from the team.
