Jewar, March 28, 2026: India took a major step in expanding its aviation network as Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the newly built Noida International Airport on Saturday to officially open its first phase. He was joined by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, with extensive security arrangements and traffic controls enforced across the region for the high profile event.
The inauguration is scheduled for noon, after which the Prime Minister will address a public gathering. The airport, developed after several deadline revisions over the past two years, is now set to begin operations as a key aviation hub in northern India.
Officials have positioned the new facility as a major boost to connectivity in the National Capital Region. It will operate alongside Indira Gandhi International Airport, forming a combined system aimed at reducing congestion and increasing passenger handling capacity in one of the country’s busiest travel zones.
The airport is expected to cater to cities such as Noida, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Mathura, and Agra, while also serving as an entry point for tourists and pilgrims visiting nearby destinations.
Ahead of the ceremony, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Traffic Police rolled out a detailed advisory. Movement restrictions have been in place since early morning and will continue until late evening, with designated routes, parking arrangements, and diversions for commercial vehicles. Emergency services have been given priority passage to avoid disruption.
Originally planned for launch in late 2024, the project faced repeated postponements before reaching completion in 2026. The government has described the airport as a transformative infrastructure project that will strengthen regional development and elevate India’s global aviation presence.
