Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla addressed the role of civil service officers in the development of the nation

NEW DELHI, 12 JUINE: The 127th Induction Training Programme for officers promoted from State Civil Services to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) concluded at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie. The closing ceremony was graced by Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla, who attended as the chief guest and addressed the newly inducted officers.

In his keynote address, Shri Birla emphasized the critical role of administrative officers in the nation’s development. He stated that civil servants should be the final point of resolution for the people’s problems, highlighting the need for an efficient and empathetic administrative system. “If citizens feel the need to approach political leaders for their grievances, it is an indication that the administrative machinery is not functioning effectively,” he said.

He urged the officers to be proactive and people-centric in their approach, asserting that they have the power to bring about meaningful socio-economic change in society. “Administrative officers must strive to leave behind a legacy of good governance,” Shri Birla added, encouraging them to set high benchmarks in their work so that future officers can follow a strong foundation.

Shri Birla also stressed the importance of continuous learning, saying that study, teaching, and training should remain integral throughout their careers. The civil services, he noted, demand constant evolution in thought and action to effectively serve a dynamic society.

The programme marked the culmination of rigorous training for 97 officers hailing from 19 different states across India. Designed to prepare them for the responsibilities of All India Service, the training covered various aspects of governance, public administration, ethics, and leadership.

The event concluded with a call to action for the officers to uphold integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to public service in their roles as administrators.
