New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to establishing peace in Naxal-affected regions and integrating them into the mainstream of development. His remarks came in response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s post lauding the success of a major anti-Maoist operation on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border.
Sharing Mr. Shah’s post on social media, the Prime Minister stated that the achievement of the security forces clearly demonstrates that the campaign to root out Naxalism is progressing in the right direction. He emphasized that the Centre remains focused on restoring peace and ensuring development in areas long affected by Naxal violence.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah had earlier announced that a total of 31 Naxals were neutralized in a sweeping joint operation carried out by security forces in the Kurraguttalu Hills (KGH) area, located along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border. Describing it as a “historic success,” Mr. Shah said the operation was a major milestone in the government’s mission to make India Naxal-free by 31st March next year.
“This is the largest anti-Naxal operation ever conducted and was successfully completed within just 21 days,” the Home Minister said. He praised the courage and resilience of the CRPF, Special Task Force (STF), and District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel who braved severe weather and challenging hilly terrain during the high-risk operation.
Mr. Shah added that the forces exhibited unmatched bravery in tackling some of the most dreaded Naxal elements, reiterating that the government is fully committed to uprooting Naxalism and restoring peace in the affected areas.
In a press conference held in Bijapur on Tuesday, CRPF Director General Gyanendra Pratap Singh, Chhattisgarh DGP Arun Dev Gautam, and Bijapur SP Jitendra Kumar Yadav provided further details. They confirmed that the 21-day-long operation on Karregutta hill, situated on the Telangana border in Bijapur district, had been meticulously planned and executed. The operation, they said, marks a turning point in the fight against Maoist insurgency in the region.
