Pakistani Troops Resume Unprovoked Firing at LoC in Jammu & Kashmir

Srinagar, May 8  — A day after a sharp surge in cross-border shelling that claimed the lives of 12 civilians and a soldier, Pakistani troops once again carried out unprovoked ceasefire violations at multiple locations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the Army, the ceasefire breaches took place during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri in Kashmir, and Akhnoor in Jammu.

“On the night of 07-08 May 2025, Pakistan Army posts engaged in unprovoked firing using small arms and artillery across the LoC in the sectors opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, and Akhnoor in J&K,” the Army said.

The Indian Army responded with a measured and proportional retaliation, the statement added.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this latest round of cross-border shelling.

Wednesday’s border escalation erupted shortly after India launched targeted strikes on several terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following the Pahalgam massacre, which left 25 tourists and a local resident dead.

On Wednesday, 13 people — including four children — lost their lives and dozens were injured in the Poonch sector of Jammu due to Pakistani shelling. Over a dozen civilians were also wounded in the Uri sector, while heavy bombardment damaged nearly 50 houses across Kashmir.

Cross-border exchanges between the two militaries have been ongoing since the deadly April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, although no casualties had been reported in the fortnight prior to Wednesday’s flare-up.
