BENGALURU, 15 March 2025: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed confidence that the Congress would return to power in the next elections, asserting that he would continue leading the state as CM for another five years.
His statement came in response to protests by opposition BJP legislators in the Assembly, who stormed the well of the House, accusing the government of sidelining elected representatives. They alleged that the Congress administration had shown favoritism by appointing party workers as chairpersons and members of the state’s guarantee committees, instead of MLAs and MLCs.
Leader of the Opposition, R Ashoka, criticized the government, claiming that such appointments were setting an unhealthy precedent and would create complications for future administrations. However, Siddaramaiah swiftly dismissed his concerns, reaffirming his government’s commitment to upholding democratic principles.
Amidst heated exchanges, the chief minister maintained that the Congress-led government had fulfilled its electoral promises and was confident of securing another term. He emphasized that the guarantee schemes had significantly benefited the people of Karnataka, and the public’s support for these initiatives would ensure the party’s re-election.
Siddaramaiah also took a dig at the BJP, accusing them of obstructing governance by frequently disrupting Assembly proceedings. He claimed that the opposition had failed to provide constructive criticism and was instead focused on baseless allegations.
The session witnessed a war of words between Congress and BJP members, with ruling party legislators backing the chief minister’s stand. The government defended its decision to appoint Congress workers to key posts, stating that those selected were competent individuals capable of overseeing welfare schemes efficiently.
As the political temperature in Karnataka rises, Siddaramaiah’s assertion about leading the state for another five years has sparked strong reactions from the opposition, indicating an intense electoral battle ahead.
