Hyderabad, January11, 2025: Mohammed Kaif, a 16-year-old defender from Hindustan Zinc’s Zinc Football Academy, has signed a five-year contract with Hyderabad FC, the 2021 Indian Super League champions.
Kaif, born to former Santosh Trophy player Mohammed Sayeed, has made a remarkable leap in his football career. Hailing from Makrana in Rajasthan, he is now recognized as one of India’s most promising young football talents. His journey reached new heights when he became the first footballer from Rajasthan in over four decades to represent India.
The young defender has made significant strides on the international stage, excelling in both 2023 and 2024. His achievements include winning two SAFF Cup titles and participating in the AFC Asian Cup 2025 Qualifiers. Currently, he is training with the India Under-20 team, preparing for the Under-20 SAFF Cup in May 2025.
Kaif’s journey began at the AIFF 3-star rated Academy, where he was scouted at the age of 10 in 2018. His outstanding performances, including a stellar campaign at the AIFF Under-17 Youth League last season, have further solidified his status as a top young talent, attracting national attention.
The center-back, who admires Spanish football legend Sergio Ramos, has become an inspiration for countless rural and tribal youth aspiring to make it big in football.
Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, expressed immense pride in Kaif’s success, stating, “We are thrilled that Hyderabad FC has recognized Mohammed Kaif’s potential at such a young age. His success is a huge inspiration, particularly for aspiring footballers in Rajasthan. Along with Sahil Poonia’s transfer to Bengaluru FC, Kaif’s achievement motivates us to continue nurturing hidden football talent from our communities and contribute to the growth of Indian football.”
Dhruv Sood, CEO of Hyderabad FC, welcomed Kaif to the team, saying, “We’ve been following his progress and are excited to have him at Hyderabad FC. Kaif has been a key figure in the India Under-17 national team, even captaining the side internationally. At Hyderabad FC, we aim to provide a platform for talented young players to reach their full potential, and we’re confident that Kaif will continue to develop and become an important asset for the team.”
Kaif’s transfer to Hyderabad FC marks the second major signing from Zinc Football Academy, following goalkeeper Sahil Poonia’s move to Bengaluru FC in 2022.
