Supreme Court to Review Manish Sisodia’s Bail Pleas in Delhi Excise Policy Case

New Delhi, July 28: The Supreme Court is set to hear AAP leader Manish Sisodia’s bail pleas on July 29, in cases related to corruption and money laundering linked to the alleged Delhi Excise policy scam.

Manish Sisodia, former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, has been in custody for 16 months. He argues that the trial has seen no progress since October 2023. The hearing will be conducted by a Bench comprising Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice K.V. Viswanathan. The Supreme Court previously agreed on July 16 to review Sisodia’s pleas, seeking responses from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).  Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26, 2023, for alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi Excise policy 2021-22. The ED arrested him on March 9, 2023, in the related money laundering case. He resigned from the Delhi cabinet on February 28, 2023.The Supreme Court had earlier denied Sisodia bail, citing evidence of “windfall gains” of ₹338 crore to liquor dealers. However, Sisodia was given the option to reapply for bail if circumstances changed or the trial was delayed. The upcoming hearing could potentially lead to significant developments in the ongoing case.
