Bus Plunges into 200-Feet Gorge in J&K’s Doda, Leaving 2 Dead and 25 Injured

Doda, Jammu & Kashmir July 13, 2024 :  A tragic accident occurred near Bhatyas in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Saturday morning, resulting in the death of two individuals and injuring 25 others. The mishap happened at around 10:25 AM when a private mini bus, traveling from Bhalessa to Thathri, skidded off the road and plunged into a 200-feet-deep gorge.

Doda Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh confirmed the casualties, stating, “Two people were killed in the accident. Four were critically injured, and five others were referred to the hospital. We have referred a total of nine people to the GMC (Government Medical College) Doda.”

Singh suggested that a malfunction in the bus might have caused the accident. “The driver tried his best to avoid the accident. We appreciate his efforts. However, we lost two lives in the accident. A total of 26 people were injured, including two children. We have referred serious patients to GMC Doda,” he added.

Officials informed PTI that the nine seriously injured individuals are receiving treatment at the Government Medical College in Doda.

This incident follows a similar tragedy just a day earlier, where a vehicle skidded off the road and rolled into a deep gorge in Poonch district, resulting in the deaths of a mother and her son.
