MSME Ministry Signs MoU with Amazon to Boost Market Access for PM Vishwakarma Artisans

Amazon to onboard PM Vishwakarma artisans onto its marketplace, enhancing visibility and expanding nationwide and global customer reach through digital commerce.

The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amazon Seller Services Private Ltd. to enhance market access for skilled artisans registered under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme. The agreement was formalised at Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi, between the Office of the Development Commissioner (MSME) and the Amazon team.

The partnership aims to integrate traditional artisans into the digital economy by showcasing their handmade products on Amazon’s national marketplace. Through this initiative, Vishwakarma artisans will gain improved visibility, wider customer engagement, and expanded business opportunities.

Empowering Traditional Craft through Technology

Launched on 17 September 2023, the PM Vishwakarma Scheme provides comprehensive support to artisans through skill training, modern toolkits, credit assistance, and market linkages. The initiative preserves traditional craft practices under the guru-shishya parampara while enabling artisans to adapt to contemporary market demands.

Under the new MoU, Amazon will facilitate the onboarding of eligible artisans engaged in crafts such as carpentry, goldsmithing, pottery, sculpture, tailoring, basket weaving, toy-making, coir products, cobbler work, metalsmithing, and other heritage trades.

The Ministry of MSME will support the process by enabling artisans to obtain necessary approvals, registrations, and clearances as per government regulations.

Support through Amazon Karigar

The collaboration will further strengthen the reach of handmade products under Amazon’s Karigar initiative, which promotes India’s diverse handicraft traditions by digitizing artisans and providing them online market access.

Towards Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat

The partnership is expected to significantly boost income opportunities for grassroots artisans and reinforce the government’s broader vision of Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat by empowering traditional craft communities through e-commerce integration.

PM Vishwakarma beneficiaries also showcased their products at the Amazon Smbhav Summit 2025 held on 10 December in New Delhi. The event allowed sellers, businesses, and stakeholders to engage with the scheme and explore collaborations to support the artisan community.
