Former US President Donald Trump Faces Mockery from Iran Amid Strait of Hormuz Crisis

Tehran responds with sarcastic remarks after warning of military action over blocked oil route

Tehran, April 6, 2026: Iran has taken a sharp dig at former US President Donald Trump following his strong warning over the closure of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, using humor and sarcasm to downplay the threat.

In a series of social media posts, Iranian diplomatic missions mocked the ultimatum by joking that they had “lost the keys” to the crucial maritime passage. Another post humorously suggested that the “key” could be found under a flowerpot, hinting that access would only be granted to friendly nations.

The remarks came after Trump issued a stern warning to Tehran, demanding the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. He cautioned that failure to comply could result in severe military strikes targeting key infrastructure, including power facilities and transport networks.

Tensions have escalated significantly since late February, when coordinated military actions involving the United States and Israel targeted Iranian positions, triggering a wider regional conflict. Since then, missile and drone attacks have spread across multiple areas in the Middle East, raising concerns about a broader war.

At the center of the crisis is the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor through which nearly one fifth of the world’s oil and gas supplies pass. Iran’s move to restrict or block traffic through the route has disrupted tanker movement and led to a surge in global oil prices.

The situation has also seen high risk military operations, including a US mission to rescue a downed fighter jet crew member inside Iranian territory. The operation, carried out under challenging conditions, highlighted the growing intensity of the conflict.

With both sides maintaining aggressive postures, fears are mounting over prolonged disruption to global energy supplies and the possibility of further escalation in the region.
