New Delhi- Leaders of the INDIA bloc will convene a crucial strategy meeting on Tuesday at 10 AM in Parliament, following a tumultuous first day of the Monsoon Session that saw both Houses repeatedly adjourned due to fierce protests by the Opposition.
The meeting aims to align the bloc’s floor strategy in light of the government’s alleged refusal to allow discussion on sensitive national issues, including Operation Sindoor and the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir.
On Monday, Parliament’s proceedings were halted multiple times. The Lok Sabha was first adjourned till 4 PM, and later until 11 AM on July 22, amid persistent sloganeering by Opposition MPs. The Rajya Sabha faced similar disruptions.
Opposition leaders demanded the Centre’s response on the terror attacks and military operations while accusing the ruling party of silencing voices from the other side of the aisle.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressed frustration at the chaos, urging members to allow debate. “The government is willing to discuss every issue,” he said.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also affirmed, “The government is completely ready for discussion on any issue.”
However, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized Opposition MPs for protesting inside the Well of the House. “They say they want discussion but are disrupting the House on Day 1 itself,” Rijiju said, adding that the Business Advisory Committee would meet at 2:30 PM to finalize the agenda.
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi strongly objected to not being allowed to speak:
“The Defence Minister was allowed to speak, but not the LoP. If the government speaks, the Opposition must also be heard.”
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra echoed the sentiment, saying, “If they are ready for discussion, they must let the LoP speak.”
The INDIA bloc is expected to finalize its unified stance and floor tactics in Tuesday’s meeting to push for accountability and transparency from the government during the session.
