Imran Khan Says Audience Preference for Big-Budget Films Is Natural, Not a Concern

Actor reflects on post-pandemic viewing trends and explains choice of a romantic comeback project

Bollywood actor Imran Khan has shared his perspective on changing audience habits, stating that there is nothing unusual about viewers gravitating towards large-scale films in theatres.

Speaking in a recent interview, the actor pointed out that cinema-going patterns have evolved globally, especially after the pandemic. According to him, audiences are now more selective about spending time and money, often choosing visually grand or high-budget productions for the big screen experience.

Rather than criticising this shift, Khan described it as a matter of personal choice, emphasizing that audience preferences should not be judged. He noted that the trend reflects how people now value theatrical outings as special occasions.

The actor also addressed the growing focus on box office numbers within the film industry. He expressed concern that filmmaking is increasingly being driven by commercial calculations rather than creativity, with success often measured purely through earnings and statistics.

Discussing his return to acting, Khan revealed that his upcoming project, Adhoore Hum Adhoore Tum, takes a different route from mainstream trends. Co-starring Bhumi Pednekar, the film is described as a subtle, relationship-driven story and will be released as a digital original rather than targeting mass theatrical appeal.

Khan’s remarks highlight an ongoing conversation in the entertainment industry about balancing artistic storytelling with commercial expectations in an era of rapidly shifting audience behaviour.
