Gurugram January 19: The Haryana Institute of Public Administration (HIPA), Gurugram, successfully conducted a two-day intensive workshop aimed at finalising a Training Module on well-being, mental health, and prevention of suicides among students in Higher Education Institutions.

The first of its kind, this workshop was conducted under the able guidance of  Manoj Yadava, Director General, HIPA. It brought together a distinguished group of six subject experts, including Dr Nand Kumar from AIIMS and Prof. Vikas from NIT Kurukshetra and 25 principals, and faculty members from colleges and universities across the state. The deliberations were anchored in the directions of the Supreme Court of India, the National Task Force (NTF) and the advisories and framework issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC), with a strong emphasis on preventive, promotive, and institution-driven strategies.

Over the two days, participants engaged in rigorous brainstorming and highly interactive sessions covering academic, psychological, administrative, and policy-level interventions. The discussions focused on strengthening institutional mechanisms for early identification, support, and crisis response, while also promoting a culture of care and well-being on campuses. Particular attention was given to developing a scalable, sustainable, and context-sensitive training module that can be effectively implemented across higher education institutions in the state.

Based on expert inputs, structured group discussions, and consensus-building exercises, the draft training module is currently under final consolidation. The finalised module, along with detailed implementation strategies, institutional action plans, and training roll-out mechanisms, will be released shortly by the Director General HIPA in collaboration with the Higher Education Department of Haryana.

The initiative has been widely appreciated as a timely and significant step towards strengthening mental health systems in higher education and safeguarding the well-being of students across Haryana.

The workshop marks an important milestone in the state’s efforts to translate national mandates into practical, institution-level action, reinforcing Haryana’s commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments for students.
