Railway Board Member Hari Shankar Verma Reviews Northern Railway Performance, Stresses Customer-Centric Reforms

Calls on officers to shed colonial mindset, prioritise safety and align operations with PM Modi’s ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision

NEW DELHI, February 05, 2026 : Hari Shankar Verma, Member (Operations and Business Development), Railway Board, visited the Northern Railway Headquarters at Baroda House today to review the zone’s operational performance and strategic direction.
Upon his arrival, he was formally welcomed by Shri Ashok Kumar Verma, General Manager, Northern Railway along with Dr Monica Agnihotri, PCOM and Praveen Pandey, PCCM.

During a high-level meeting with Principal Heads of Departments, Hari Shankar Verma emphasized that safety and security must remain paramount during train operations. In a strong directive regarding work culture, he advised all senior officers to shed the “colonial mindset” and adopt a strictly customer-centric approach to service delivery. He emphasised on training of staff and adopting an innovative approach in job.

“Indian Railways shall be the engine for Prime Minister Modi’s Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047,” Verma stated, adding that the performance of every Railway officer must be driven by this overarching national goal.

Focus on Field Operations
Verma also conducted a comprehensive review meeting with officials from the Operating and Commercial Departments, as well as Divisional officers who joined via video conferencing.
During the session, he motivated the young officers to strive for performance excellence. Demonstrating a hands-on leadership style, he gave a patient hearing to the actual challenges faced by officers in the field, assuring them of support in resolving operational bottlenecks.
