Government Boosts Farmer Empowerment Through Skill Development Initiatives

Government Strengthens Farmer Capacities Through Skill Development, Training, and Modern Agricultural Practices

New Delhi, 30 September 2025 – The Government of India is enhancing the capacities of farmers and rural youth through a range of skill development and training programs, aimed at improving productivity, income, and resilience in agriculture.

Frontline platforms such as Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) have trained over 2.45 crore farmers and youth between 2021 and 2025. Initiatives like Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY), Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM), and the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 4.0) are equipping participants with hands-on skills in horticulture, livestock, dairy, fisheries, mechanization, and food processing.

Sector-specific programs such as the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM), and PM-Kisan SAMPADA Yojana have further strengthened training in horticulture, indigenous breed development, and food processing, benefiting over 34 lakh farmers.

These initiatives aim to create a skilled, self-reliant, and resilient farming community, empowering farmers to adopt modern technologies, become entrepreneurs, and contribute actively to rural economic growth.
