CM Rekha Gupta Inspects Chhath Festival Preparations at Sur Ghat and Munak Canal

Delhi Government Excited About This Festival of Devotion, Faith, and Purity: CM Rekha Gupta

New Delhi, 22 October 2025 – Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today inspected the preparations for the Chhath festival at Sur Ghat in Wazirabad and the Chhath ghats being constructed along the Munak Canal from Prembari Bridge to the AYU Block in North Delhi. She also issued directions to the concerned officials. The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of ghat construction, lighting arrangements, cleanliness, and other related preparations. She stated that the Delhi Government is enthusiastic about this festival, which embodies devotion, faith, and purity. The Government is committed to ensuring that Chhath devotees receive full respect and a sense of belonging. The Chief Minister also emphasised that all facilities will be made available to devotees during the festival and highlighted that the festival’s focus on dedication to nature sends a strong message about environmental protection.

The Chief Minister first visited Sur Ghat. During the inspection, she was accompanied by Delhi Government Minister for Development, Kapil Mishra, MLA Abhay Verma, and senior officials from the relevant departments. She received detailed briefings on all arrangements from the officials present. The Chief Minister directed that the convenience and safety of devotees should be the highest priority. She explicitly instructed that all preparations at the ghats, including cleanliness, lighting, security, and crowd management, should be completed in a timely and organised manner so that devotees do not face any inconvenience during the festival. She also stressed that, given the large number of visitors expected at the ghat, extensive traffic management arrangements should be made.

The Chief Minister then proceeded to the Munak Canal, where large-scale ghats are being constructed for Chhath devotees. She was accompanied by local councillor Dr Amit Nagpal, social workers, and senior officials. During her inspection, she directed officials to ensure that the ghats are constructed in a manner that causes no inconvenience to any devotee and that security measures are fully implemented. She also interacted with local residents and devotees during the visit. According to the Chief Minister, the Munak Canal, which flows from Haryana through Delhi, used to witness massive crowds during Chhath, often leading to congestion and disorder. However, this year, the Government initiated cleaning drives, desilting works, and ghat construction well in advance. So far, silt has been removed using trucks, and this work is continuing rapidly to ensure no inconvenience during the festival.

The Chief Minister stated that the Delhi Government aims to make Chhath not merely a religious occasion but a symbol of cleanliness, culture, and good governance. The Government is working effectively to ensure that every devotee can perform their rituals without any difficulty. She added that the intention is for every aspect of this year’s Chhath festival to be grand, divine, and memorable. The Delhi Government is working with full readiness, efficiency, and dedication to achieve this.
